Testimonial Birth Stories

Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips. – Proverbs 27:2

“As I reached my third trimester, I mentioned to my hair dresser that I would love a doula to boost my confidence in the birth of my first child! How amazing that just the weekend before she learned about her good friend, Mary Ramos, becoming a doula. It was an answer to prayer! I scheduled to meet with Mary and felt an immediate connection. I knew I’d want her by my side. Meeting with her prior to the delivery increased my peace with our birth plan as well as my faith in Christ! She was open-minded, a wealth of knowledge, and she was there for me every step of the way. Once I was in labor, Mary stayed up all night and assisted my husband and I in every way possible. It was truly a ‘labor of love’ and I know I have gained a friend and mentor for life in Mary!” ~ Katie G

The skill of being with women in pain in labour often rests in believing in women when they do not believe in themselves ~ Nicky Leaf

I never had heard of a Doula until my daughter told me that Mary would be hers. I thought it sounded cool but didn’t know the significance of having a Doula until… Megan started showing signs that she would be having Titus. Mary was an integral part even before we got to the hospital. She pretty much arrived when the contractions started. She had ideas and incite on how to comfort Megan and really gave me peace of mind. I felt that she really understood what to do and when. She was able to communicate to Megan in a way that was comforting and encouraging. Something that I’m not always the best at in these kinds of situations. ? She was there from the beginning to the end of the whole labor process and was able to help Megan through the labor and delivery. I really don’t know what we would have done without her. Having her there made a potentially intense situation into an experience that made us feel confident. Thank You again Mary!

A woman in Birth is at once her most powerful, and most vulnerable. But any woman who has birthed unhindered understands that we are stronger than we know. Marcie Macari

“Six weeks before I was due with my 3rd baby I shared my birth story of
my daughter (3) and my son (2) both which were induced labors with Mary Ramos. I had fear and anxiety of labor and most of all getting an epidural due to the herniated discs in my back. With my daughter I was impatient and insisted on being induced if she didn’t come on her due date. I was induced and didn’t have an epidural but did request pain medication via IV. Bad choice and I agreed to NEVER get those crazy drugs again as I was unable to function after my daughter was born due to how my body reacted to the drugs. With my son I had a tear and was leaking amniotic fluid at 39 weeks, I was already 3cm so my doctor sent me to the hospital to be induced. This time around I asked for a less intense pain medicine and did not receive an epidural. I did how ever experience back labor which was just awful and left me screaming and begging for an epidural. I told myself I would never be pregnant again. I feared I would have to go through the same excruciating back labor again and the only way to avoid that was no more babies!
After meeting with Mary and she explained to me what a doula was and how they help during labor I knew I wanted to use her as MY doula! I loved having someone I could talk to besides my doctor for advice and helpful tips with discomfort in my last few weeks of my 3rd pregnancy. I had doubts that I wouldn’t know what do to or know when I was in labor as i waited to go into labor naturally this time. Mary reassured me that without a doubt I would know! 2 days before my due date I went into labor and Mary was by my side from the moment I checked into the hospital until a few hours after I gave birth. She was able to help relax me through the contractions as well as coach my husband in ways to help comfort me as well. This by far was the BEST labor experience ever for me and my husband as well. Though tough at times I look back now and can say how peaceful and stress free the labor was. I’m so thankful for Mary and her testimony she shared through this journey with my family and me. I wouldn’t do it any other way next time, whenever that may be :)” Leah B

“If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.” – John H. Kennell, MD

My doula experience was wonderful! Having doula Mary Ramos with us for the birth of my third baby girl made such a huge difference in my birth experience. Mary was kind, loving, encouraging, and supportive through the entire process. Even though this was my third delivery, I felt I needed extra encouragement and support. I was planning to try to have a non medicated delivery and I wanted to prepare the best way possible. Having Mary as my doula helped immensely!
Leading up to the birth, I had several meetings with Mary. She provided a lot of helpful information and helped ease any concerns that I had at the time. Mary was easy and sweet to talk to, and was very eager to know and understand what my needs were so she could provide the best care. She was always accessible by phone or email which reassured me as my delivery drew close.

When it came time to having our baby girl, Mary was with us right from the very beginning. Once we arrived at the hospital, she was attentive to my every need. She had ideas for relaxation that I had never ever thought of. She helped me through my labor using comforting words, touch, massage. She encouraged me to try various positions which also were very helpful. When it came time to have my baby, it was Mary who detected the signs that I was ready and she immediately called the nurse. In a matter of minutes, the doctor was called in and my baby arrived! Thanks to her being there by my side at all times, she was able to spot the signs that my baby was crowning and get the immediate help that I needed. I was so thankful that she was there by my side. Would I use Mary again as a doula? The answer is absolutely, positively yes! Would I use Mary again as a doula? The answer is absolutely, positively yes! Muriel S.

Making the decision to have a child – it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body. – Elizabeth Stone

Mary is AMAZING. She is so down to earth and nice. We enjoyed our pre-labor meetings, where she provided us with resources to help write our birth plan, showed us birthing balls we could use, explained the use of counter pressure for contractions, and looked over different birthing positions. During my 25 hour labor, Mary never left our side. She supported my husband and was an absolute blessing to have on our birthing team. She provided us with alternative methods to counter pain so I could manage the contractions without pain medications. My husband and I both agree that we wouldn’t have another baby without her. Thank you Mary! Bethany R.
